Art
Lu Hao is well known for his photorealist landscapes and his models of Beijing, above all for his playfulness with architecture and geographical images in rapidly evolving modern China. He is also known for his crystal palaces, his elaborate installations and his use of plastics to recreate stone and steel objects.[1]
From a perspective of Chinese culture Lu Hao's serial works of "Flowers, Birds, Insects, and Goldfish" are created out of a type of plastics - Plexiglas. With this material, he has produced flowerpots, bird-cages, insect-containers and fish-globes modeled on the most ideological buildings in China, including the Tiananmen Square, the Great Hall of the People, Xinhuamen and the Art Museum of China. Specialized in Chinese ink painting, Lu Hao has profound knowledge of traditional Chinese culture; he chooses flowers, birds, insects and goldfish as his subject matter, not only because they are pets for Chinese leisure time, bu t also because they are one of the traditional subjects of the painting of Chinese men of letters; it is a cultural manner, but not necessarily one that represents the "love for nature".[2]
Exhibitions
Lu Hao's work has been included in many international exhibitions of critical note, including "Mahjong: Contemporary Chinese Art from the Sigg Collection" in 2008 at the University of California, Berkeley Art Museum, Pacific Film Archive, Berkeley, USA.
