In the late 1970s, Chang Tzong-zung and Harold Wong opened Hanart Gallery in Hong Kong to showcase classical Chinese paitning. In 1983, Chang opened a sister gallery, Hanart TZ (Chang’s initials) to focus on contemporary art. The original Hanart Gallery dissolved in 1990 when Harold decided to paint full-time. Hanart TZ initially emphasized Hong Kong and Taiwan artists, though with time expanded to include Mainland China. Today, Chang’s directorship and curatorial skills continue to keep Hanart TZ at the forefront of the Chinese contemporary art world.[1]
