[edit] Art
Ge Yi's paintings abandon the virtuosic Realism typical of most Chinese landscape artists in favor of a loopy and loosely painted sense of existential bewilderment. In fact, Ge's paintings might be compared to post-war landscapes painted by German artist Anselm Kiefer, or described (or enacted) by Beat writers of that day, ever on the road. Fairy tale-like themes breathe life into Ge’s mysterious vistas. On the one hand Ge reminds us of the frequent appearance of the solitary figure in traditional Chinese landscape painting—be it scholar or wayfaring monk—and on the other, of the disturbing deterioration of the once comfortably intimate relationship between man and nature.
[edit] Exhibitions
In 2007 alone, Ge's work was shown at the "The Original Works Exhibition" in Beijing, "Songzhuang Generation" of Songzhuang Artist Village Gallery, Beijing,
"The 1st Contemporary Art Exhibition" at East Coast Terminal in Beijing, "Backbone Strength" at Art Manson, Beijing, and "The First Autumn Exhibition of Songzhuang" of Shangshang Art Museum, Beijing.
